Hey Lisina! in class we talk about theatre training being highly recommended to be a stronger actor. What are some ways I can become more theatre trained, especially in this current world where live theatre isn't happening. Also, is there a way I can get the most out of performing in zoom staged readings?
Hi Jessica. The real experience of doing live theatre doesn't really have a replacement. So until those opportunities are there for you, study and work on material from plays. Reading and working through characters in plays will give you a bigger view of story and character. Then when the world re-opens safely the act of rehearsal and performance will give you a sense of commitment to the moment you have not experienced before. I suppose simply doing those staged readings is a way to fulfill a needed experience. Rehearse the play at home. Find physicality in your rehearsal for the reading and activate a full body and vocal warm-up to assist you in being able to bring the character alive in that format. This organization is what The Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts became. Get familiar with them and see what they are offering virtually. https://c4atlanta.org/
I’m on the board of Impact Theatre Atlanta and we’re in talks of doing some live outdoor theatre this fall. I’ll try to remember to pass along the audition details when they become available. I’m sure other theatres are preparing to do the same these cooler months.
Thank you! I will check them out. I have rehearsals for a zoom staged reading coming up, so that should be a good start. and thank you @Jessica Kelly !
