I know I'm earlier with this question with it being Wednesday and all, but I've been told that it's important to let agents and casting directors up to date with what you are doing.
I just had a short film released & a pilot I did just released their website: https://blackcreekseries.com/
How --if you recommend reaching out and sending stuff -- should I go about doing that? Or phrasing it?
Lately, I’ve been signing up for these Power Hours with Casting Directors. It gives you the chance to perform and Q&A. Do you think these could be beneficial if I crossed paths with them in the near future?
I guess it depends on how you did in those Power Hours. I imagine that is the precise purpose of those so hopefully a casting director takes good notes for the purpose of remembering you.
Hi Noelle. People used to send postcards out with announcements. Now I think many people keep their social media updated and try to get good at spreading the word that way. But sending post cards with updates is still practiced.
@Ms. Marcia can you explain these "Power Hours". Also are they compensated for their time or are they a free for all? Pro and Con to the payment option, but at least they are slightly more organized imo. I would love to hear your thoughts on them and how they are going
Are these something people are charging for?
Sure! I like them. It’s an opportunity to showcase yourself in a personable zoom setting with CD/Agent/Producer... and build a small relationship. It is affordable anywhere from $40-$50. I actually performed for Joy Pervis for a Power Hour. She loved me and decided she wanted to sign me. Now, these PH are not designed to guarantee any shot a job or representation, but a great way to network. I will list the instructions on what they require below. I recently did one with CD Nick Spooner. He enjoyed my performance and expressed to hope to work with me in the near future. It can be beneficial in many ways. I honestly don’t have any Cons. Also, I’m sure you have had your baby. Congrats baby mama! @Kate Lord
So here's what's going on:
1. Everyone needs to download Zoom Meetings.
2. I will send you all an email 10 minutes before class to join the meeting.
3. We will do commercial copy for this one.
4. We will open with a brief discussion and then move into the scenes.
5. Please email me your Actor's Access or Casting Network link with your scene.
6. Then we will wrap it up!
Bravo with JPA. So proud of you. Thank you for posting this. Yes, hard to believe this time last year was the last time I was physically in class due to about to give birth. We had a girl. She will be 1YO this time next month :)
Oh my, I wrote a huge answer here and it doesn't seem to have posted. Okay, please remember that even when legitimate people participate in these things and positive outcomes (like yours did) do occur it does not change the fact that paying to audition is not an ethical thing for casting directors to do. You should pay only for educational opportunities. Please refer to these links for guidance and understanding of industry ethics. https://www.castingsociety.com/join/workshop-guidelines

I say all of that guys not to tell you I agree or disagree with you doing these workshops. It is to make you aware of industry standard and ethics and to let you know that you should be cautious and expect teaching when you pay someone for something. There are a lot of casting directors or places that call themselves acting studios but just house pay to play audition scenarios but don't actually teach anything and this is just a way to make money from actors.
Thanks Lisina! I found it educational because he expressed a lot of things I inquired on what CD look for in the room, how to perfect an audition or callback, and the status on booking process due to COVID.
OK, good to know. Keep that as your barometer when choosing to do these things and make sure you are paying for an educational opportunity.
They make sure this is listed below any Power Hour to not have any confusion. I hope this helps. ;)
The presence of a casting director is not a guarantee or promise of employment. This is not a job interview.
This workshop is for educational/networking purposes only.
